This training is best suited for experienced yoga teachers and trained birth keepers who have practiced yoga. We will be focusing on what we call "Big Y" Yoga and how the broadest, heart-felt definition of Yoga can help pregnant, birthing and postpartum people. We hope yoga teachers will learn from the birth keepers and the birth keepers will learn from the yoga teachers. We will all practice loving presence, Yoga, and staying heart-centered in the perinatal year. While asana will be a big part of our class, it is not the focus.

No! You can complete this prenatal yoga teacher training without having a 200 hour yoga teacher training, but you can’t get certified as a registered teacher by Yoga Alliance until you have completed at least the 200 hour teacher training. Molly and I feel many people in the perinatal community would like to be able to share some yoga in a safe way with their clients, so we have made this available to anyone. The Yoga Alliance registration as an RPYT may give a teacher more teaching opportunity, but not having it does not stop someone from teaching a class or working one-on-one. Rochester has a long tradition of untrained prenatal yoga teachers and we are hoping to provide a better base of training and knowledge to the whole perinatal community.

In order to register with Yoga Alliance as RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher), a teacher needs to have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training and complete 30 hours of teaching prenatal yoga. You DO NOT need to register with Yoga Alliance in order to teach prenatal yoga! Yoga Alliance certifications are a personal choice.
