Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga

Heather at 9 months pregnant

“She knew just what baby and I needed throughout the course of the pregnancy.” —g.p.

Prenatal Yoga ::

Prenatal yoga is one of the best ways to support your body and mind while growing your baby and preparing for the intense work of labor and childbirth.

In one-on-one sessions or small group classes, Heather will help you meet your changing physical and emotional needs with each trimester, while addressing any unexpected challenges that might arise (back pain, etc). Sessions will include breath and birth mantra work, meditations to help you connect with baby, movement sequences that are appropriate for each trimester and labor, and restoratives to encourage rest while you can.

Prenatal Yoga sessions with Heather also include practical support as you begin considering the important topics of birth plan, birth support team, postpartum preparation and life with baby. Heather will act as your sounding board, listening to your concerns and offering support to keep you grounded as you make decisions.

Postnatal Yoga ::

Moving into a new body and a new life after giving birth can be challenging, exhausting and exciting. You are undoubtedly a changed person, whether you experienced a natural or cesarean birth, or had a traumatic or joyful birthing experience.  Postnatal Yoga can offer nourishment and support during your first year of transition and new beginnings during this sacred time.  Practice with or without baby by your side and slowly ease back into your moving body.

In your sessions with Heather you will regain lost muscular strength, rediscover your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and engage in supportive breath and restorative practices that will encourage healing and recovery physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Student Experiences

  • I came back to yoga after a long hiatus with some musculoskeletal issues and was so lucky (I think divine intervention) to have landed in Heather's class. She was so patient and adjusted poses for me and I felt like I had arrived "home". Her lovely spirit infuses the room and her gentle guidance is such a gift. A spiritual, emotional and body experience is what you get in a class led by Heather. Best yoga teacher I have ever had, no question.

  • Heather is a uniquely gifted yoga instructor. She is able to challenge her students while also creating a joyful atmosphere in which all students feel comfortable and supported. She weaves in yoga philosophy and history in a way that enriches students understanding of the practice. Her classes always leave me with a deeper appreciation of yoga as a whole.

  • I have been taking Yoga with Heather for over 2 years. Her classes are very inclusive. She is able to flawlessly teach to all levels at the same time. Many times she will structure her classes to a final goal (posture). This is always challenging but fun. Her knowledge of the history of Yoga is extensive and she shares during her classes.

  • Heather has a deep understanding of the body, and mind that relates so eloquently to her teaching. One's connection to the body during pregnancy is vastly different than any other time, and Heather helped me to love my body, a vessel of life, through all of its changes. Each session she prepared various mantras to play with and had a heightened awareness of my body and what it was capable of during the various stages of pregnancy. She knew just what baby and I needed throughout the course of the pregnancy and modified with ease when I expressed needing something different. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to not only move their body during pregnancy, but also connect with their changing body, baby, and set up a positive mindset for birth.

  • Heather is one of my favorite yoga teachers. She is very good at teaching, leading and Always instills a sense of comfort, safety, peace and empowerment. I hosted a yoga retreat once and hired her to lead a class, she brought the perfect energy and everyone there loved it. Highly recommend!!

  • I was recommended to one of Heather's yoga classes during a very hard time in my life. I was going through something so heavy and difficult that I was literally fighting my way through each and every day, and night. For a few month period, Heather's class was my only refuge. It not only provided me solace, but was one of the only things that did. Heather truly is a wonderfully unique, very special person. Take a class from her and you will understand what I mean. I consider myself lucky to have met her!

  • There is something about Heather's spirit where practicing with her is incredibly rejuvenating for both the body and mind. She brings a unique blend of reflective readings and education about the traditions of yoga (and festivals!) to the start of each class. It helps me slow down and appreciate the beauty of each new "season" in life, with a time for all things. With the physical aspects of class, Heather has a way of expertly crafting the asanas such that each builds on the next. So many times, Heather's guidance has allowed me and the rest of the class to take on a pose that initially seemed out of reach (sometimes literally). I always appreciate that Heather's classes are themed, which allows the principles to stay with me, continuing the yoga beyond the walls of the studio. You can't help but experience Heather's yoga classes without wanting to become a regular. Heather keeps me coming back for time on the mat each week and she always leaves me feeling so glad to have made the time.

  • Heather is a thoughtful, grounded, playful and earnest teacher. Her passion and love for yoga is clearly evident in every class I've ever taken with her - and that's a lot of classes! She's an excellent guide for your Asana practice, but more importantly, she takes all the other aspects of yoga just as seriously. You can expect to learn yogic philosophy, mythology, mantra and pranayama from Heather, as well as practical ways to live your yoga practice off your mat and out in the wider world. If you are interested in a well-rounded offering that respects the ancient traditions of yoga, this is the teacher for you!

    K.D.

  • When I was going through my own 200hr yoga teacher training, I was required to attend 28 yoga classes outside of my training from studios at my choosing. I took the majority of them from Heather because I resonated with her the most. She was the most genuine and personable teacher I had come across. She began every class with an inspiring yoga quote and her teaching method was very inclusive. She was a teacher that inspired and helped me with own training. I will always be grateful that I came across her classes.

    J.R.

  • Heather’s love of all of yoga (not just the physical practice) is what I love about her classes! Her classes are good for my mind and body. On a human level, I enjoy her spirit and calming presence, as well.

    S.Q.

  • I think my life has improved from my practice- my mind is clearer, heart is lighter, and body stronger- it is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself, and I’m so grateful for your guidance.

    S.D.

  • Heather is a genuine, inspiring, salt of the earth woman. She is always positive and sincere in her interactions with her students. Her yoga classes outshine others with her cuing and pre-planning. Her classes are about the student and where they meet the mat. She enriches class with her knowledge of the poses and the history of yoga. I highly recommend her!

    C.D.

  • Your direction, your calm voice, your encouragement was everything to me today!

    T.B.

  • Thank you so much for your compassion, wisdom, and guidance; it was truly a gift to have you as a teacher.
